ABU DHABI, 22nd April, 2026 (WAM) — The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced the start of the 2026 camel grazing season in the emirate, exceptionally this year from 22nd April until 15th October, under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAD.

The camel grazing season is implemented within the framework of Law No. (11) of 2020 regarding the regulation of grazing in the Abu Dhabi emirate.

EAD is responsible for implementing this law, which aims to organise traditional grazing practices to protect natural pastures in coordination with relevant authorities, ensuring the use of natural resources in accordance with the highest environmental sustainability standards.

This ensures that the needs of the local community are met and camel grazing is preserved as an inherited traditional practice in the emirate, in an environmentally balanced manner.

To facilitate the process, eligible applicants may obtain a grazing licence instantly through the TAMM platform. The fee for a new licence is AED250, while the renewal fee is AED150.

Based on the Executive Regulations of the aforementioned law, to obtain a camel grazing licence, the applicant must be a UAE National and…

Malaysia-based offshore support vessel (OSV) provider Nam Cheong has sold two vessels for $36.7 million, including its first newbuild sale in more than a decade.

The transactions include a newly built multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV) and a 120-tonne anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel, which was 16 years old and divested following the completion of its charter contract in the first quarter of 2026.

Both vessels were delivered in the second quarter of 2026 to a vessel operator in Indonesia and a government-linked operator in Egypt.

The company said proceeds from the sales will be primarily reinvested into its shipbuilding operations or used to support fleet expansion, depending on market conditions.

The divestments form part of Nam Cheong’s fleet optimization strategy, aimed at recycling capital by selling older vessels while maintaining flexibility to supply newbuilds.

“Our strong OSV shipbuilding heritage and established global clientele base allow us to identify and capitalize on market opportunities for vessel monetization. This enables the Group to capture earnings upsides through the sale of both newbuilds and existing ageing vessels.

“With an ageing global OSV fleet, the Group continues to see increasing demand for newbuilds….

As delegates head to London for MEPC 84 and the next round of talks on the Net Zero Framework, shipping industry heavyweights are lining up to endorse the universal authority of the IMO and the value of a single global rulebook – but as ever, opinions vary on the climate regulations at issue. The main shipowners associations – ICS, BIMCO, CLIA, Intercargo, WSC and Intertanko – say that they remain committed to the NZF, offering both input and support; the world’s top three flag registries – which represent half of all global tonnage – are encouraging member states to look beyond the NZF and consider something different.

All of these stakeholders are unanimous in calling for unity behind IMO as a global regulator, citing the unique advantages of a worldwide level playing field. The ICS-led group encourages member states to “consider all options to achieve a global agreement,” thereby preempting a patchwork of different national emissions requirements in different places. The EU’s complex regional regulation for greenhouse gas emissions is often cited as a cautionary example of what might face shipping if it does not achieve a “fit-for-purpose” global ruleset at IMO first.

Specific industry-association requests for the NZF include acceptance of the use of…

Young leaders, innovators and advocates from around the world are gathering at UN Headquarters in New York until Thursday for the 2026 Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum.

The event aims to advance innovative solutions to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Held under the theme Innovate, Unite and Transform: Youth Shaping the Road to 2030, the forum reaffirms young people as essential partners in building a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future.

Bringing the ‘sunshine’

Acknowledging that it is rare to see a full room with such positive energy, General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock thanked participants for bringing “sunshine” into the halls of the UN.

Emphasising that young people must be included now, not just in the future, she told the audience they were there to do more than talk: “it’s a test of whether we are truly ready to act.”

She shared three messages with delegates, ministers and young leaders:

“First, to delegates and Permanent Representatives in New York: follow through, no excuses. (…) Second, to Ministers and representatives from capital: the discussions here must move beyond this chamber. (…) And last, to young people: keep pushing boundaries. Keep questioning. Keep leading.”

Ms. Baerbock…

U.S. President Donald Trump went into the Iran war convinced that America’s vast oil wealth would insulate the country from the kind of energy shock now battering much of the world. Four weeks into the conflict, that shield is looking fragile.

Trump’s wager has only partly paid off. U.S. oil prices have risen less sharply than those elsewhere since U.S.-Israeli air strikes against Iran on February 28 ignited a regional war that rapidly engulfed the Middle East’s energy infrastructure, blocking the Strait of Hormuz and cutting off roughly a fifth of global oil and gas flows.

Brent crude LCOc1, the global benchmark, has surged about 55% since late February to around $110 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate CLc1 has climbed 50% to around $99. The divergence between the two benchmarks recently hit its highest in a decade, excluding a brief spike during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This gap reflects a structural shift in energy markets. The U.S. is now the world’s largest producer of oil and gas and exports more energy than it imports, thanks to the shale boom of the past 15 years. While U.S. refiners still import crude to optimise operations – including some Middle Eastern grades that accounted for roughly 4% of consumption last year –…

Avondale Global Gateway (AGG), in partnership with JEDCO, announced it has been selected as an inaugural recipient of an investment through Louisiana Economic Development’s FastSites program, a statewide initiative that accelerates site readiness and positions Louisiana to compete for transformative industrial projects. AGG participated in the program’s official launch in Baton Rouge, where CEO Adam Anderson was invited to speak alongside state leaders, highlighting the site’s strategic importance to Louisiana’s economy.

“Public investments that improve the readiness of maritime and logistics sites are critical to growing Louisiana’s trade economy,” said Port of New Orleans Board Chairman Mike Thomas. “Avondale Global Gateway is an important multimodal logistics hub within Port NOLA’s jurisdiction, and infrastructure investments like this in Jefferson Parish strengthen our region’s ability to drive economic opportunity.”

Since acquiring the former Avondale Shipyard, Avondale Global Gateway’s parent company, T. Parker Host (Host), has transformed the 275-acre property into a premier multimodal logistics hub. What was once a distressed industrial complex with just six people on site now supports more than 600 workers across operations,…

The Levels and Trends in Child Mortality report launched by the UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation shows that, although under-five deaths have fallen by more than half since 2000, the pace of reduction has slowed by more than 60 per cent since 2015.

Malnutrition and other major threats

Among its key findings, more than 100,000 children aged between one month and five, died directly from severe acute malnutrition – the first global estimate of such deaths – with some of the highest numbers recorded in Pakistan, Somalia and Sudan.

Experts warn the true toll is likely higher, as malnutrition weakens immunity and increases vulnerability to other diseases, while many cases go unrecorded.

“No child should die from diseases that we know how to prevent. But we see worrying signs that progress in child survival is slowing – and at a time where we’re seeing further global budget cuts,” said Catherine Russell, Executive Director for the UN…
